The recruitment examination conducted for the last grade posts in the Kannur Police Cooperative Society was disrupted on Monday (May 11) after Kerala Students Union (KSU) activists barged into the venue, alleging that they had tried to facilitate meetings through back doors.
The protest turned tense as activists allegedly tore question papers and disrupted court proceedings.
The examination was conducted for the posts of peon and night watchman. About 50 applicants appeared for the exam for two vacancies.
KSU activists alleged that several applicants were not given hall tickets and alleged that the examination was conducted secretly to facilitate backdoor appointments. After receiving information about the protest, MLA TO Mohanan and Congress leaders reached the polling place.
District Congress Committee (DCC) president Martin George alleged that the hastily conducted written test was aimed at appointing CPI(M) loyalists before the new government takes office. He further alleged that the entire recruitment process was rigged by accepting applications only from CPI(M) supported candidates and a pre-prepared list of shortlisted candidates.
Meanwhile, officials of the Kannur police cooperative said details of the probe were published in newspapers and denied allegations of backdoor meetings.
