The J&K Police on Thursday (November 27, 2025) searched the premises of members of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami in seven districts of the Kashmir Valley and the capital Srinagar. Police officials said searches were conducted in Shopian, Anantnag, Awantipora, Shopian, Kulgam, Handwara, Budgam and Pulwama.
In Srinagar, police searched madrassas and mosques in all zones. Officials said the search is part of ongoing efforts to disrupt the terror-supporting ecosystem in Srinagar and prevent any act aimed at disrupting peace and public order. The search teams were accompanied by executive judges and independent witnesses
Police stressed that operations will continue wherever credible inputs indicate the presence of persons or materials linked to terrorism or radicalized activities.
“Acting on credible information regarding suspected illegal activities and possible links with JeI, the Handwara police raided Jamia Islamia Institute, Waripora, Handwara. Electronic devices found during the operation were seized and are being scrutinized,” the police said.
Police said several locations in seven districts were searched, targeting individuals and premises associated with the banned organization JeI, banned under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
Preventive measures
“These large-scale operations are part of ongoing preventive measures aimed at identifying and neutralizing networks attempting to covertly revive the activities of proscribed organisations. All individuals with any past or present affiliation to a proscribed group have been searched,” the police said.
Police said electronic devices were seized along with various documents and other incriminating materials suspected to be related to the organization’s clandestine activities. “These items have been secured for detailed forensic and technical examination,” police said.
In Awantipora, police said searches were conducted at the houses and premises of JeI members to “dismantle the terrorist ecosystem and its support structures”.
“During the operation, incriminating material and digital equipment were recovered and several JeI members were questioned and placed under restraining orders,” police said.
Police officials said the force was “committed to maintaining peace, stability and public order”.
