
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has assured that the demand for implementation of the Old Pension Scheme (OPS) will be placed before the government for further consideration.
Addressing teachers at the state-level education convention and golden jubilee celebration organized by the Karnataka State Government Primary School Teachers’ Association on Saturday, he also said that consideration would be given to promoting primary school teachers with matriculation.
He recalled that during his previous tenure as Minister of Finance, one million teachers were appointed in 5 years. He said that the 6th and 7th pay commissions have been introduced and sincere efforts will be made to meet the demands of the teachers. He also said that efforts would be made to raise salaries.
In his special lecture, writer and thinker Baraguru Ramachandrappa emphasized the importance of preserving primary schools at all levels which are the foundation of education.
He further said that as Karnataka Public Schools (KPS) were opening, there was a fear that government schools would be closed. “The Minister of Education says that not a single school will be closed. Let’s believe him. But some say that schools will be closed. Which is true? There must be a mutual discussion.”
Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar promised that a site would be provided in Bengaluru for the construction of the teachers’ association building.
“Our government has decided to use the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) fund of ₹8,000-10,000 crore to develop the infrastructure of rural government schools. Good private schools must adopt government schools and appoint teachers,” he said.
