Weeks after part of the bridge collapsed across the Mahisagar River in the Gujarat’s Vadodar district and claimed several lives, died another victim and moved the official number of victims to 22.
Dilip Padhiyar, 34, who underwent treatment of the SSG government hospital in Vadodar, died on Tuesday (August 5, 2025), the officials said. As a resident of Borsada Taluk in the Anand district, he was critically injured in the incident and later developed a fatal infection according to doctors.
Collector Vadodar Anil Dhameliya said, “With his death toll has increased to 22. All other injuries have recovered and released. One person, Vikram Padhiyar, is still non -prudent.”
Dilip returned home after completing the night shift at the factory in Vadodar, when part of the bridge near the village of Gambhira collapsed and sent several vehicles to the river below. The locals managed to save five people from the water that night, but many others could not be saved.
The forty -year -old bridge connected the districts of Anand and Vadodar. After the tragedy, four engineers from the state department of roads and buildings were suspended due to alleged negligence.
