The inhabitants of the village have been looking for more than six decades. Interestingly, families settled in the village after the construction of the Linganmakki dam, part of the Sharavati Hydel Power project. People who have said goodbye to their land to create energy do not have electricity.
Dinesh Shiravalla, leader of Sangha, said that the inhabitants of the village had no equipment in independent India. There is neither road nor school. “The nation celebrates its 79th day of independence. However, the inhabitants of the Ualagall are fighting for basic equipment. The government should respond to its requirements,” he said.
Custody
The police took the protesters to custody around 6 August. They were moved to police stations in Sagar, Kargal and Anandapore. The protesters decided to continue the protest.
“The police took us into custody early in the morning. We were fighting for our basic needs. The government should listen to and meet them,” said Nagaraj Salkod, a resident of the Ulalagallla.
In Shivamogg, Minister of School Education Madhu Bangappa, responding to the protest of villagers, he said that the Karnataka government committed itself to fulfill the needs of villagers. “Work on energy supply has started,” he added.
