The monsoon nightmares have become a routine affair for Ayub Khan and the family who have lived next to the River Musi for decades. Nothing prepared them on Friday evening.
“Around 3 pm came (officials) and warned us that the water was released from the reservoirs. They did not say how much we thought it was like any monsoon when the water entered homes and release it,” he said.

But around 4 pm, suddenly the water began at a alarming pace at a small slum of Rasoolpura in Chaderghat. Until then, people have not gained where to go, except for climbing the top of their houses and waiting for relief.
Ayub Khan, his wife, son, daughter and sister -in -law, all climbed over the roof of their only floor house and spent a sleepless night there by watching water that was dangerously close.

Water mercifully retreated after noon and not so mercifully, found that all their belongings were damaged or departed in the water.
“Our refrigerator and washing machine emerged. The sofa set was soaked and covered with dirt, so we had to throw it away,” he said.
