With the state government aiming to distribute 65 lakh sarees in the first phase to rural women by December 9, the Indiramma saree distribution is underway across Telangana and is seeing an overwhelming response. Ministers, Congress MLAs, MPs and other public representatives from various districts are participating in the programme.
On Sunday, BC Minister for Transport and Social Affairs Ponnam Prabhakar distributed sarees to women in Husnabad constituency, while Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narasimha attended a function in Sangareddy town.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Prabhakar said that sarees, woven by Sircilla weavers, are being distributed to all women above the age of 18 under the leadership of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He urged women to participate in the program and wear saris as a symbol of dignity and empowerment.
In Sangareddy, Mr. Raja Narasimha said the “people’s government” was committed to promoting women’s development across sectors. “The government disbursed loans worth Rs 590 crore to women SHGs in the district and distributed interest subsidy of Rs 32 crore,” he said, adding that the state government was trying to empower women through the Indira Mahila Shakti programme.
“The government supports women SHGs in various ventures like solar power plants, Mahila Shakti canteens, petrol pumps and purchase of buses,” he added.
Telangana Innovation Cell Chairperson Nirmala Jaggareddy said that the government through Indira Mahila Shakti is introducing various welfare programs for women and women should take advantage of them and develop economically.
In a similar program held in Station Ghanpur constituency, Warangal MP Kadiyam Kavya and local MLA Kadiyam Srihari participated in the distribution of Indira Mahila Shakti sarees.
