The inhabitants of the Indianagar, organized under the auspices of “I Change Indianagar” (ICIN), were stopped by the police on Thursday in Indianagar I. The inhabitants described the police “undemocratic”.
The residents were against the project and claimed that the BBMP playground would slip into the hands of private individuals, which would result in the entry of local children. The residents also presented the Memorandum to the main commissioner of BBMP M. Maleshwar Rao, who demanded the project scrap.
The playground is known as Victory Grounds. Currently, about 40% of the country is occupied by temporary basketball ground with net, but the locals can also play. Now the same stadium becomes a roof stadium. The inhabitants are afraid that after the transformation, the locals may not be entry and the rest of the space in the country can be used for parking.
Sneha Nandihal, an Indianagar resident, said that the locals visited the venue of the event only and did not intend to protest. Since the land is managed by BBMP and the event was organized by BBMP, the inhabitants had the right to participate, she said and condemned the police event.
D. Devaraj, Deputy Police Commissioner (DCP) East, said Hindu: “The inhabitants published on social media about the intention of protesting. So we stopped the inhabitants”. However, the inhabitants claimed that they created such contributions.
It should be remembered that in 2016, when the civic body proposed to build an internal basketball stadium, residents protested similarly, after which the Ministry of City Development (UDD) 25 February 2016 ordered the BBMP to cancel the project. However, the civic body again captivated the project.
Mrs. Nandihalová said that all children were used by these land, significantly by those of low -income families. The limitation of the locals and its paid entry is against inclusivity, she said. The inhabitants are particularly dissatisfied because the playground was maintained by ICIN without the help of BBMP. “We added the gate to the park, painted it, removed the squatters and ensured cleanliness, we made it usable,” she added.
However, BBMP manager said that the playground is a public playground and even after the basketball stadium is established.
