India was 131 of the 148 countries in the Global Gender Gap Report 2025 forum from 148 countries and slipped from its position last year.
Parity scores among the lowest in South Asia
PTI said the score of Indian gender parity was only 64.1 percent, which, according to a report published on Thursday, published in the South Asian region, ranked among the lowest countries in the South Asian region. In the report 2024, India was included in 129.
A score of gender perits is a measure used to assess relative equality or differences between men and women in a particular region.
Dimensions evaluated in the message
According to PTI, the global gender gap index evaluates gender parity in four key dimensions: economic participation and opportunity, achieving education, health and survival and political strengthening.

The overall performance of the Indian economy showed a slight improvement in the absolute point of view and increased by 0.3 points.
Economic participation is marginally improving
PTI said that “one dimension where India increases parity is on economic participation and occasions where its score improves by 0.9 % to 40.7 %. ”
Parity of labor participation remained the same as last year to 45.9 %, which is still the highest India.
Achieving education sees positive growth
In the dimension of education, India scored 97.1 %, which reflected the improvement of female literacy and entry in tertiary education. These gains positively affected the score of the subindex.
Health indicators show progress
India also records higher health and survival, led by improved scores in the ratio of sex at birth and at a healthy life expectancy.

However, the report noted that this parity was achieved despite the overall life expectancy of both men and women.
Political authorization further decreases
India has seen a slight decline in political authorization, with a slight decrease in the parity from the previous edition of the parity. The representation of the women in parliament fell from 14.7 % to 13.8 % in 2025, seconding in a row to reduce the score of the indicator below 2023.
Similarly, the share of women in ministerial positions decreased from 6.5 % to 5.6 %, which brought the indicator score further from its peak 30 % recorded in 2019, PTI said.
The performance of Indian counterparts
Among the South Asian countries, Bangladesh appeared as the best executive and jumped to 75 rows to reach the 24th position around the world.
The report said the global gender gap was closed to 68.8 %, which meant the strongest annual progress from the Covid-19 pandemia, PTI said.
Iceland continues at the peak of the 16th Index, followed by Finland, Norway, Great Britain and New Zealand.

PTI also said that the progress made in the 19th issue was driven primarily by constant progress in political strengthening of position and economic participation, while education and health and survival maintained the level of almost parity.
Although women representing 41.2 % of global labor persist a significant gap in the leadership, while women hold only 28.8 % of the highest positions, reported in the report.
“In a time of increased global economic uncertainty and low growth outlook combined with technological and demographic change, advanced gender parity is the key power for economic renewal,” said Saadia Zahidi, CEO of the World Economic Forum, PTI.
“The evidence is clear. Savings that have made decisive progress towards parity are building for more powerful, more innovative and resistant economic progress,” Zahidi said.
