On Saturday, September 13, the Ministry of Income tax reported more than 6 income tax returns (ITRS) for the assessment of the year 2025-26.
In the contribution on the Social Media platform X IT department said: “Thank you to taxpayers and tax professionals for helping us to achieve a milestone of 6 crore tax returns (ITRS) from now and still count.”
According to the IT department, the last date is to file an ITR without a fine of 15 September 2025.
In order to help taxpayers to submit ITRs, tax payments and other related services, IT department assistance works on the basis of 24×7. It also provides support through calls, live chat, WebEx Sessions & Twitter/X.
The IT department asked taxpayers who did not give itr for AY 2025-26 to submit first to avoid rush at the last minute.
In May, the Ministry of Income Tax announced the extension of the maturity date for the ITR for the evaluation year (AY) 2025-26 (for income gained in the financial year 2024-25) individuals, HUF (Hindu Rettled Family) and entities that do not have to obtain audited accounts from 31 to 15 September.
The extension was due to the “structural and content revisions” in the forms of income tax returns (ITR), which was announced at the end of April and early May.
Changes in the form of ITR PRO AY 2025-26 also need modifications to be made in ITR and Back-End.
Over the years, the administration of ITR has been consistent growth, reflecting increasing compliance and expanding the tax base.
For AY 2024-25, a record 7.28 CRORE ITR was filed until 31.
In July, the income tax department stated that it allowed online award-rate revenue (ITR-2) for the financial year 2024-25 for individuals and HUF, which have a taxable capital profit.
“The ITR-2 income tax return is now allowed to submit online mode with preliminary data on the electronic submission portal,” the IT department said in the X post.
ITR-2 is given by individuals and Hindu undistributed families who have income from capital gains, but do not have income from business or profession.
In June, the tax department allowed an online tool for ITR-1 and 4, which are simpler forms that provide small and medium taxpayers.
