A portion of the roof slab of the Government Higher Primary School at Sangolgi (C) village in Aland taluk of Kalaburagi district suddenly collapsed on Sunday morning.
No one was injured as the school was closed for the week-long holiday and no students or teachers were on the premises at the time of the incident.
The accident could have had serious consequences if the school had been functioning, residents said.
The incident comes close to the recent accident at the Government Pre-University Girls’ School in Kalaburagi, which has raised concerns over the condition and safety of educational institution buildings across the district.
The latest roof collapse has further intensified public criticism of the Ministry of Education’s neglect of school infrastructure maintenance.
Residents and parents urged the state government to immediately inspect the old and dilapidated school buildings in the district and take necessary measures to ensure the safety of students and staff.
