The Lake Protection Committee has made a remarkable progress in the lake announcements within the last 10 months, which has been atypical for the body since it was created 15 years ago.
The Committee, headed by the Metropolitan Commissioner, issued 408 preliminary notifications and 957 final announcements with regard to the lake behind the outer round road. Final notifications are more than four times higher than the number issued during the 15 -year committee existence.
The Lake Protection Committee was established in response to the High Court’s instructions as a complex regulatory body consisting of representatives of all departments of the parties to protect all lakes and regulate the development in the Himayatsagar and Osmansagar Lakes basins.
The identification of lakes and preliminary notifications took place at a reasonable pace after the Committee Constitution. The preliminary announcement is issued after defining the full level of the lake tank, along with the numbers of the survey that fall inwards so that the parties are objected if they exist. The final announcement is issued for each lake after the completion of the FTL zones and the leveling memories and the determination of geocoordinates for it.
From 2010, to August 2024, preliminary notifications have been issued with regard to 2525 lakes in the Metropolitan Region Hyderabad, but the final announcement was released only to 230.
In September 2024, the state government issued orders representing an independent exclusive committee for the protection of the lakes for the lakes within the Orr, which is to be chaired by the Commissioner of the Agency for the Protection of Disaster in Hyderabad.
Of the 3262 lakes pre -identified in the HMR area, it was found that 476 was inside the orr and in the interest of Hydraa LPC and the remaining 2,786, outside the ORR, and thus within the HMDA LPC.
Overall, HMDA LPC issued a total of 2,933 preliminary notifications and 1187 final announcements during the 15 -year existence. Of these, 2,502 preliminary notifications were issued for lakes outside the orr and 431 inside. The final announcement was for 1093 lakes outside Orr and for 94 lakes inside.
“Another set of 687 lakes is with an irrigation department and we are in the process of integration into our database after removal of duplications,” said Commissioner Hmda Sarfaraz Ahmed.
