The Healthy Wayanad project focuses on the needs of vulnerable groups

The Wayanad district administration has formulated the project Healthy Wayanad to examine the problems faced by persons with disabilities, senior citizens, people with lifestyle diseases and members of Scheduled Tribe communities and come up with need-based development projects.

Agriculture Minister T. Siddique on Saturday (October 10) inaugurated a consultative meeting of three-tier panchayat presidents and district-level officials at Vengappally in connection with the implementation of the project.

The initiative aims to scientifically assess the problems faced by vulnerable sections through systematic data collection and formulate effective development projects based on their specific needs.

The project will be implemented under the leadership of the Municipal Council and MLA in cooperation with local self-government bodies in the Municipal Council.

Information will be collected through grama panchayat and ward level meetings. The survey will cover all households in the district with the participation of National Service System (NSS) students, Master of Social Work (MSW) students and various voluntary organizations.

Once the data collection is complete, data panels will be created to provide the district administration, MLAs and local government institutions with the information needed to plan interventions. This will help identify problems and requirements in each sector and prioritize development initiatives.

Officials said that the initiative envisages a comprehensive effort to improve the quality of life of the target groups by aligning the development activities of the local bodies with the real needs of the people.

After identifying specific needs, suitable projects will be formulated using the resources of the local authority plan. The projects will be implemented after the approval of the relevant committees of the local bodies and the District Planning Committee (DPC).

Usha Vijayan, MLA presided.
