Five students of Government Medical College (GMC), Eluru, were allegedly bitten by rats in the college hostel a few days ago. The affected students were treated and complained to the GMC Director and the Superintendent of the State General Hospital (GGH).
In response to the incident, Health Minister Y. Satya Kumar ordered an inquiry and directed the officials concerned to initiate a sanitation drive to curb the rodent menace.
According to sources, the rats attacked the students who were later treated at GGH. Subsequently, this matter was brought to the attention of superior authorities.
“The health minister has directed the medical superintendent and other senior officials to submit a detailed report on the incident,” an official told The Hindu on Sunday.
Earlier there were reports of similar incidents of rat bites in Eluru and Guntur government hospitals.
