HYDRAA chief AV Ranganath inspects Mella Cheruva in Tellapur on Saturday.

Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner AV Ranganath took a serious look at the reports of dumping of construction waste within the full tank (FTL) and buffer zones of the lakes and ordered strict action against those who alter the natural profile of the water bodies.

Directing the officials to prevent any further dumping by erecting fencing, Mr. Ranganath said that the garbage already dumped should be removed by those responsible and criminal proceedings initiated against them. Acting on the complaints, he inspected the Mella Cheruva at Tellapur Lake and Gandipet on Saturday.

In Mella Cheruvu, local residents showed commissioners the area where waste was dumped under the FTL. He ordered the offender, Raju Yadav, to clear him immediately from the FTL and the buffer zone and warned of action if he did not obey.

At Gandipet Lake, the commissioner took serious notice of dumping towards Himayathnagar village and directed one Khurshid, who was found to have filled the area with construction waste, to clear it within 72 hours.

Meanwhile, HYDRAA in coordination with the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) cleared encroachments from a park measuring over two acres on Road No. 32 in Jubilee Hills on Saturday.

Following media reports that the park had been encroached upon and illegal constructions had come up, Mr. Ranganath conducted a field inspection and ordered the constructions to be cleared immediately. He took a serious look at the sheds built by two neighboring house owners for watchmen and cattle and the installation of gates connecting their houses to the park.

The commissioner told the officials to remove the gates, build a wall and secure the main entrance to make the park accessible to all and the public spaces will be protected at all costs.

Mr. Ranganath said steps would be taken to restore the historic Bulkapur nala, which brings rainwater to Hussainsagar, in view of complaints that it was being disturbed in Manikonda.
