Three members of the Hakki Pikki tribal community of Shivamogga, stranded in Mozambique after losing their documents, have received help from the High Commission of India in Mozambique. They are scheduled to return to India on Friday, according to R. Punitha Kumar, state president of Hakki Pikki Budakattu Sanghatan.

Milan Kumar, Kavya and Gambhir, residents of the Hakki Pikki camp near Shivamogga, traveled to Mozambique to sell medicinal plant extracts. In an attempt to extend their visas, they hired a local agent who took their documents, including their passports, and then disappeared without responding to their requests for documents and money.

Mr Kumar told The Hindu on Thursday that the Indian High Commission in Mozambique had intervened after being informed about the situation. “Officials tracked down the agent and got the documents. They also helped book the return tickets. The group will leave Nampula on Friday,” he said. Mr. Kumar thanked the High Commission officials for their prompt response.
