Devotees thronged Canal Road in the city on Monday (February 16, 2026) to participate in the annual Rathotsavam, which marked the conclusion of the Mahasivaratri celebrations. The celestial chariot procession featured the processional deities of Sri Durga Malleswara Swamy, Sri Bhramaramba Malleswara Swamy and Vasanta Mallikarjuna Swamy.
Amid chants of ‘Om Namah Shivaya’, the devotees enthusiastically pulled the ornately decorated chariot, creating an atmosphere charged with spiritual fervour.
Organized by the Sri Kanyakaparameswari Annasatram Committee, the festival attracted devotees not only from across the city but also from different parts of the district. A cultural performance added liveliness to the celebrations. Traditional art forms including ‘kolatam’, ‘puli veshalu’ and ‘lambada’ dances captivated the audience while musical bands entertained the crowds. Artists depicting mythological episodes further enhanced the festive spirit and elicited applause from the onlookers.
Devotees lined the streets with offerings and waited patiently for a glimpse of the deities as the procession slowly made its way through the crowded street. Priests recited Vedic hymns and performed special rituals throughout the event, enhancing the religious significance of the occasion.
Elaborate security arrangements were put in place to ensure the smooth running of the event as Canal Road remained packed for several hours. Despite the high turnout, the celebrations were peaceful.
