The government’s “reckless decisions” have thrown the education department into disarray, Jagan claims

YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president YS Jagan Mohan Reddy accused Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and HRD Minister N. Lokesh of throwing the Education Department into disarray with their “reckless decisions”.

Reacting to the alleged use of force by the police against those protesting the shifting of the Government Tribal Residential School at Marikavalasa in Visakhapatnam, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy said the crackdown was aimed at suppressing their voices.

Unfortunately, the police treated former Deputy CM P. Pushpa Sreevani roughly when she was spearheading the protests along with other leaders and put some of them under house arrest, he said.

The YSRCP chief said parents of students and tribal organizations have been protesting against the shifting of the school since August 20, but the government lacks the patience to at least listen to their objections.

During the tenure of former Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy, seven Gurukulams were established under the School of Excellence concept on the advice of renowned educationists, including Chukka Ramaiah. He said the aim was to provide quality education to ST students from Class VIII to Intermediate and prepare them for admission to prestigious institutions like NITs and IITs. Qualified teachers were appointed and incentives were provided to ensure quality coaching as a result of which tribal students could secure seats in the above institutions, Mr. Jagan Mohan Reddy recalled.

Further, the infrastructure in Gurukulams has been improved through the Nadu-Nedu program and the quality of education has been enhanced through online coaching and interactive platforms. Now the government was forcefully moving students from schools that were performing well, exposing them to hardship, he argued.

“It is not right to weaken and break schools of excellence established with such a concept. The government must review its decision, listen to the objections of students and their parents and allow these children to study wherever they wish to continue their education,” added Jagan Mohan Reddy.
