Royal Challengers Bengaluru could be on the cusp of a defining phase in their history, with former India cricketer Sanjay Bangar hinting that the franchise may enter a period of sustained dominance in the Indian Premier League.
When they finally broke them title drought last seasonn, RCB seem to have carried that momentum into IPL 2026. Bangar believes the impact of this maiden championship could go far beyond a single trophy and potentially lay the foundation for a winning culture that will sustain success for several seasons.
Talking about JioStar, Bangar pointed to the cyclical nature of dominance in the IPL, where teams like Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have enjoyed extended spells at the top. According to him, RCB now has the ingredients to follow a similar trajectory.
“As a team, there are phases, like there was a phase for CSK and MI when they seemed invincible. I believe now is RCB’s time,” Bangar said, stressing the confidence that comes from both being consistent and finally lifting the title.
He went on to explain that success often has a ripple effect within a franchise. Winning a championship not only boosts player morale, but also boosts belief across management and ownership and creates an environment where sustained success can be achieved.
“The success that the team has had in terms of consistency, not necessarily just the championship, but after winning this championship, the confidence is high. It rubs off on the management and the owners, and then you can get into the game,” he added.
Bangar went a step further and suggested that RCB could be on the verge of building a legacy similar to the most decorated IPL sides. He envisioned a scenario where the Bengaluru-based franchise not only competes consistently but also collects multiple titles in quick succession.
“I believe it’s not just about winning one championship but it could be a phase for RCB where maybe three or four years in a row they can do something really special and be in that top group of IPL teams where Kolkata Knight Riders, MI and CSK have won multiple championships. I predict RCB will be sitting in that special lineup very soon,” he said.
RCB’s current form lends weight to this optimism. Sitting atop the IPL 2026 table with four wins from five matches, they are showing the poise and consistency that defined their winning campaign last season.
They will face Delhi Capitals next M Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 18 with another strong performance that will likely further fuel talk of a potential golden era for the franchise.
