East Godavari District Collector Keerthi Chekuri on Friday (October 24, 2025) announced that additional ghats will be constructed along a 4.7 km stretch of the Godavari river to handle the estimated six lakh devotees expected to participate in the Godavari Pushkarams-2027. Currently, there are as many as 65 ghats available in Rajamahendravaram city and Kovvuru constituency.
In a review meeting with stakeholders including officials from water resources, police and city corporation department, Ms. Keerthi said that vehicular movement from Visakhapatnam, Vijayawada and Khammam will also be diverted to avoid any untoward incident and to manage traffic.
“APSRTC and railway authorities have been directed to come up with a transport action plan as around two lakh devotees are expected to arrive by train and 25,000 by bus,” she said.
Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation Commissioner Rahul Meena proposed to widen 25 roads leading to Kotilingala and Saraswathi Ghats in the city. Superintendent of Police D. Narasimha Kishore and other officials have been instructed to prepare plans for crowd management and hospitality facilities.
