The FSSAI license for the iconic Hotel Shadab in Hyderabad has been suspended due to food safety violations

The Telangana Food and Essential Drugs Standards Authority (TG SAFE) has closed two cafes and suspended the FSSAI license of Hotel Shadab, Madina Circle branch, following inspections on Wednesday that found numerous violations of food safety and hygiene norms.

A total of nine enforcement teams comprising food safety officials and police personnel conducted a special drive in 19 cafes and eateries across Hyderabad on Wednesday.

During inspections, officials found several violations, including establishments operating without valid FSSAI licenses or registrations, poor hygiene in food preparation areas, improper handling and storage of food, expired and spoiled food, and infestations of house flies and cockroaches. Some food handlers were also found without headgear.

Dreamz Cafeteria in Bagh Lingampally and Asiatic Cafe in Panjagutta were shut down after officials found they were operating without valid FSSAI licenses or registrations.

The FSSAI license of Shadab Hotel in Madina has been suspended and the management has been ordered to cease operations following numerous violations related to hygiene, sanitation and storage of meat and other food items. However, when The Hindu inquired with the restaurant, it was open on Wednesday evening.

Officials also discarded perishable food that had been exposed to dust and flies. Tea powder, ginger-garlic paste, biscuits and other food products suspected of adulteration were seized and sent for analysis. A total of 15 food samples were taken for suspected adulteration.

TG SAFE said improvement notices will be issued to 12 establishments, including Cafe Persia, Bahar Biryani Cafe, Cafe Deccan, Honeymoon Cafe, Rio Restaurant, Friends and Cafe, Diamond Point Hotel, Hotel Imroz, Blue Sea Tea and Snacks, Nimrah Cafe and Bakery and Gulzar Foods. The facilities will be re-inspected to check that they are in compliance with food safety standards, officials said.

TG SAFE further added that show-cause notices will also be issued to Golden Cafe, Dreams Cafeteria, Mirosa Cafe and Kitchen, Asiatic Cafe and Hotel Shadab, while further action to impose sanctions will be proposed.
