The fourth Telangana State Police Sports Meet begins in Cyberabad

The fourth Telangana State Police Sports and Games Meet-2026 was launched at the Cyberabad Police Parade on Wednesday.

Director General of Police B. Shivadhar Reddy attended as the chief guest and received a ceremonial police salute on arrival. The sports lamp was presented by Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh and formally lit by the DGP to start the competitions. Amid police honours, the DGP fired a gun salute and released balloons to signal the start of the meeting.

Addressing the gathering, the DGP lauded the forces for handling recent tasks including the Global Summit, International Football Matches, Gram Panchayat and Municipal Elections and Medaram Jatara with commitment and professionalism. He said that although police officers are constantly engaged in maintaining law and order, participating in sports brings new enthusiasm and energy. He stressed the importance of physical fitness and urged police officers to make exercise a daily habit.

He noted that sport fosters leadership qualities, team spirit and unity, and strengthens physical and mental resilience. He also called for greater representation of women across departments and encouraged them to display leadership skills and talent.

Cyberabad CP highlighted that 2,532 players from 33 districts participated, including 300 women. There is competition in 31 sports categories, with 14 events reserved for women. He announced that Telangana will host the All India Police Football Competition in Cyberabad next month. He also outlined incentives for national-level winners, including cash prizes of ₹ 3 lakh for gold, ₹ 2 lakh for silver and ₹ 1 lakh for bronze, along with increments.

Several athletes who have excelled at the international level, including Arjuna awardee S. Jayaram, have been awarded medals. Teams from various zones, commissionerates and specialized units including Greyhounds, Octopus, Intelligence, CID, IT and Communications, Ministerial staff and Telangana State Police Academy are participating in the meeting. The DGP later watched the volleyball match and interacted with the students of the Young India Police School.

The Police Social and Wellness Exhibition was also inaugurated with stalls for health care, nutrition, physical fitness and sports equipment, which generated considerable interest from staff and visitors.

Among the highlights were the products of the prisoners of the prison ward, including household goods and handicrafts. The transport wing exhibit showcased advanced equipment such as speed laser weapons and a transport robot, while EAGLE Force displayed drug testing kits and other tools. Health stands offered millet, cereals and organic products, fitness equipment was exhibited by private exhibitors. The expo, which also includes traditional Telangana food stalls and children’s attractions, will continue till Saturday.
