The Association of Friendly Friends of Seniors demanded that lawyers should not be appointed for the scheduled officers of the revenue division (RDOS) in the maintenance courts.
Pursuant to Section 17 of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Seniors of 2007, no party to the court will not be represented by a lawyer.
The RDOS, who chaired the maintenance courts, where older parents could apply for maintenance, appointed lawyers for agreement officials in violation of the rules, the association claimed.
Agreement officers were only obliged to circulate the law. However, this provision incorrectly interpreted the appointment of lawyers for the agent.
The lawyers were also appointed children or relatives to argue with their case against older parents. This came in the way of parents who gained maintenance according to the tribunals orders.
The association demanded that people with experience at least five years in matters related to elderly people would be appointed to be appointed officers.
