Mahesh Tenginakai, Hubballi Dharwad Central MLA, who reviewed the progress of the elevated road project around Kittur Chennamma Circle in Hubballi on Friday (May 8), said that the elevated road is likely to be opened for traffic by the end of December.
Speaking to presspersons after a walk between Old Court Circle and Hosur Circle in Hubballi on May 8, Mr. Tenginakai said that 70% of the flyover work has already been completed and the remaining will be completed in a few months and the concrete road under the flyover, lighting and other works will be completed by the end of December.
The MLA also performed bhoomi puja for the concrete road opposite the IT park in Hubballi during his inspection and said the road work would be completed within four months.
Mr Tenginakai told reporters that a delegation led by Union Minister Pralhad Joshi met Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and sought additional funds for laying concrete roads under the elevated road. In response to their plea, Mr. Gadkari approved additional grants of ₹ 13 cr.
He said officials told him that the concrete work on the road between IT Park and Old Bus Station would be completed within 15 days, except for the road between Old Bus Station and Bhavani Arcade. At the same time, work has begun to lay a concrete road near Old Court Circle, he said.
“Of the 294 girders to be installed for the flyover, 262 have already been installed and another 32 girders are yet to be installed. Besides, another 25 girders are being prepared. As the box girders have to be ready at Kittur Chennamma Circle, the traffic at the intersection will be affected. We are putting more pressure to work or complete the work so that we can work at the earliest,” he said.
Mr. Tenginakai also said that Public Works Department officials had promised him that concrete road laying work at important intersections would be completed within a month and a half.
The MLA was accompanied by Deputy Mayor Santosh Chavan, Councilor Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation Meenakshi Vantamuri, Deputy Commissioner of Police CR Raveen, Executive Engineer National Highways Authority of India Satish Naganur, Municipal Commissioner Rudresh Ghali and others.
