Every time Godavari rises in Mancherial, the Government Center for Mother and Child (MCH), located near the banks of the river in the city, faces a flood threat, requires the transfer of patients in the state center to nearby hospitals.
14 July 2022, when Godavari increased to unprecedented levels, was more than 100 pregnant women, newborns and mothers in the MCH center moved to various hospitals in the city after the flood waters surrounded the composed wall of the building.
The incident occurred barely a few months after the inauguration of the MCH Center.
This caused a public scream over the “poorly conceived” selection of the place for the MCH Center, built just 300 meters from the bed of the river.
On Thursday (August 28), approximately 179 pregnant women, new mothers and newborns were moved to the Government General Hospital and several private hospitals after Godavar has witnessed heavy influx from preliminary dams in the last few days.
Since the MCH Center continues to face a recurring flood threat during the monsoon season, the demand for a permanent solution to the problem of ending the suffering of pregnant women is louder.

According to official sources, the deputy asked the officials concerned to ensure the rapid completion of the new building of the Government General Hospital to move the MCH center to the new premises in the city of the district headquarters.
