The five -day mango was organized to provide a market without intermediaries for Mango growers on Tuesday in Dharwad, while Deputy Commissioner Divya Prabhu GRJ had previously launched it.
Mel was organized by the District Administration in cooperation with the Ministry of Horticulture. More than a dozen manga varieties are for sale at the festival that will continue until 17 May.
The cultivation of mangoes was adopted at approximately 12,000 hectares of Dharwad district and “Dharwad Aapus”, as is known as the most sought -after manga variety.
Mrs. Prabhu, who started Mel, said that the Mango festival gains popularity and focuses on the designation “Dharwad Aapus”.
Overall, manga cultivation was included in 12,000 hectares in the villages of Yogyellapur, Kelgeri, Tegur, Amblikopp, Halligeri, Mansur, Mugad, Mandihal, Devagiri, Navagir, Itagatti, Yerikopp, Kalkeri, Kyarkopp and others. This year, the expected yield was over 29,000 tons and was supplied to meters and several shipments would be sent abroad, she said.
The Commissioner’s deputy said that the government sanctioned the Mango for Dharwad Council and will come in Kumbapur in Dharwad Taluk and for this purpose the 7 Crore was sanctioned. The Board of Directors would facilitate the connection of consumers with growers, in addition to engaging in research and development and conducting training for mango growers, she said.
