The WRD in Andra Pradesh released the first flood warning of this monsoon season in Prakasam fire across the Krishna River after the flood release of 3.97 Lakh Cusecs exceeded Tuesday morning.
Officials said the tide is likely to increase further, with almost 6 lakh Cusecs expecting to continue release from preliminary tanks, including Almatti, Nayanapore, Srisailam, Nagarjuna Sagar and Pulichinthal.
Meanwhile, a failure in the 69 Prakasam Barage gate in Vijayawada was reported, which suffered damage during the flood last year.
When the engineers tried to lift all 70 Prakasam fire gates to release the flood water, the damaged gate could not be increased.
Irrigation Vijayawada (central) Executive Division and Ravi Kiran conservator has confirmed this problem and noted that repairs would be carried out as soon as the flood level retreated. “There is no danger because flood water is released efficiently,” they assured.
Until 19:00, 69 gates were raised to their maximum height of 10 feet on Tuesday, released 4,68,720 cusecs water downstream, maintaining the level of the ridge to 13.3 feet.
In addition, there were 3,829 cuses (KWMC) to the eastern main channel Krishna (Kemc) and 516 CUSEC.
Reservoirs across Andhra Pradesh report a higher level of storage compared to the same time last year.
The main tanks, with a rough capacity of 908.48 TMC FT, currently hold 728.31 TMC FT or 80.17%, from last year compared to 73.03%.
The middle tanks, which have a rough capacity of 91.58 TMC FT, store 48.17 TMC FT or 52.6%, compared to 37.68% last year.
Overall, the state reservoirs now have 776.47 TMC FT water or 77.64% of their capacity, which is an increase of 69.79% recorded in 2024. Available flood cushion in all tanks is at 223.59 TMC FT, claiming that officials will help manage tributary during heavy rainfall.
The tanks are thrown
In the Krishna basin, the key tanks are close to full capacity.
In Srisailam in the Nandyal district in the Nandyal district, the reservoir now holds 198.36 TMC FT compared to its rough capacity of 215.81 TMC FT, while the flood pillow 17.45 TMC FT. The tide was recorded at 3.90 135 CUSECS.
In Nagarjuna Sagar in the Palnad district reached a tank of 296.28 TMC FT against its rough capacity of 312.05 TMC FT, with an inflow of 4 10,186 CUSECS and drainage 4 09 791 Cusecs.
Meanwhile, in Pulichinthala in the Palnad district was a storage of 33.54 TMC FT against a capacity of 45.77 TMC FT, with an influx of 3.97 807 CUSECS and outflow of 4.13 395 CUSECS.
Both Prakasam Barečka in the NTR district and Sir Arthur Cotton Barrage in the eastern Godavari district achieved full capacity.
In Prakasam Barrage, 3.07 TMC FT was stored, with a balanced tributary and a drain of 4 73 065 CUSECS. In the cotton color Sir Arthur achieved storage of 2.93 TMC FT with the same tide and drains 7 63 310 CUSECS.
Officials said they continuously follow all the main tanks and barriers. Since Krishna and Godavari are achieved full capacity, the water level is carefully regulated and released downstream to minimize the risks in low -laid dwellings.
“The situation is under control, but it is expected that the influx will increase further. We are ready to issue a second flood warning depending on the level of the inflow,” WRD officials said.
