The ceasefire was announced hours after the Israeli cabinet approved an agreement on the exchange of the remaining hostages for Palestinian prisoners, according to the Israeli army.
The ceasefire is considered to be a critical step towards the end of the war, which killed tens of thousands, balanced a large part of Gaza and destabilized the region. The withdrawal means the initial step in the gradual ceasefire and the hostage agreement mediated between Israel and Hamas, with mediation from Qatar, Egypt and the United States.
Ceasefire implementation
On the basis of the agreement, both sides are expected to observe the stopping of hostility, while humanitarian aid continues to flow into the Gaza lane. The first stage of the ceasefire also includes the release of Israeli hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners from Israeli prison.
Netanyahu: “Hamas will disarm and Gaza will be demilitarized”
At the TV address of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he said that the next phase of the agreement would ensure that Hamas was disarmed and Gaza was demilitarized.
“If it is easy – so let it be. If not – a hard path will be achieved,” Netanyahu said.
He added that Hamas only accepted the agreement when he was under strict pressure.
“Hamas only agreed with the agreement when he felt that the sword was on his neck – and he was still on his neck.”
After the ceasefire, thousands of displaced Palestinians began to return north to check their homes. Much found that the whole neighborhood destroyed.
Heavy toll two -year war
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when the Militants Hamas attacked Israel, killed about 1,200 people and took 251 hostages.
According to the Ministry of Health of Gaza, more than 67,000 Palestinians were killed in the subsequent Israel, and almost 170,000 were injured, saying that about half of the dead were women and children.
The war spilled into neighboring regions, caused global protests and led to accusations of genocide that Israel strongly denied.
Replacement of hostage-imprisonment
On the basis of the first phase agreement, all 48 remaining hostages in Gaza are expected to be released, although Israel believes that only about 20 is alive.
In return, Israel will release about 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. The list is not included in the significant detainener Marwan Barghiti, who many Palestinians have seen as a potential unifying leader.
Khalil al-hayya, the main negotiator of Hamas, said, “All women and children held in Israeli prisons will be liberated.”
Officials said the stock exchanges could start on Sunday evening, although most sources expect them to Monday.
Transitions to re -open and help flow
The agreement will reopen five border crossings, including the crossing of Rafah with Egypt, allowing humanitarian aid to enter Gaza, where parts of the population face the conditions of famine, according to Egyptian and Hamas officials.
