
Gathering more than 500 delegates from 125 countries and 28 Indian states, the 5th session of the Loka Kerala Sabha will begin in Thiruvananthapuram on Thursday (January 29, 2026).
The three-day meeting will begin with Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurating a public meeting at 5 pm at the Nishagandhi Auditorium. Speaker AN Shamseer will preside over the function. This will be followed by a session of the Loka Kerala Sabha on January 30 and 31 at the R. Sankaranarayanan Thampi Hall in the Assembly Building.
The Chief Minister will also inaugurate the 5th Loka Kerala Sabha at 10 am on January 30. He will then submit an approach document, besides inaugurating the Student Migration Portal, Airport Help Desk, Sherpa Portal and Loka Keralam online services. Eight thematic discussions and seven regional conferences will also take place in the afternoon.
Discussions on various topics will be held in the eight halls of the Assembly from 14:30 to 15:45 Regional conferences will be held from 16:30 to 17:30 Regional conferences of representatives of West Asian countries, in addition to Asian and Pacific countries, American countries, other Indian states and returned expats will be attended by ministers.
An open forum on ‘Role of expatriates in building a new Kerala’ will be organized at University College from 30th January from 03:00 PM onwards.
On January 31, from 9 a.m. to 10:15 a.m., there will be a report from seven regional meetings and eight thematic commissions, followed by resolution presentations and speeches. The Chief Minister will deliver his speech at 2:30 p.m. 5. The Lok Kerala Sabha will conclude at 3:00 PM with the Speaker’s closing speech.
A spokesperson told the media here on Tuesday that a large number of projects being implemented in the state were proposed by expats during the previous editions of the Lok Kerala Sabha. For example, the state government implemented about 10 recommendations out of 28 made in the fourth Sabha.
To the governor’s letter
The spokesperson said there would be no response to a copy of a letter sent by the governor’s office seeking an explanation of the chief minister’s “unauthorised” additions to a political speech in the Assembly. A spokesman said he had received a copy of the letter marked highly confidential, while the original had been sent to the media. There was no need to respond to a copy of the letter, he said.
