
A 55 -year -old farmer who faced a loss of three acres of land for an industrial project in Channaayapatna in Devanahali, allegedly consumed poison on Thursday during a protest against land acquisition. The farmer, identified as Venkatesh, underwent treatment at Victoria Hospital in Bengalur.
The protest led by a group of farmers whose land was announced for the acquisition in the third phase of the industrial project by the Cardataka (KIADB) industrial area, for more than 1,000 days.
Kiadb announced 1,777 acres for acquisition. Since the announcement was issued, farmers have been an indeterminate sit-in and against the project.
During the last elections, the protesters threatened to boycott public opinion surveys, which caused the government to promise to cancel the project but remain unfulfilled.
On Thursday morning, when farmers left the protest place in the intention of meeting the district Minister KH MuniyAppa in his residence in Sanjay Nagar, the police captured and stopped two buses carrying over 100 farmers.
The leader of the farmer Anjaneya Reddy spoke to Hindu, said the farmers got off and started Dharna near the police station. During this protest, Mr. Venkatesh, a long -time participant of agitation, allegedly consumed poison. He was hurried to the hospital. “Mr. Venkatesh is now out of danger, but he will remain under supervision for the next two days,” Mr. Reddy added.
No case was registered in connection with the incident.
