An elderly woman Saroja Bai B. Kambanoor of Shahabad town in Kalaburagi district said her two sons, Satish B. Kambanoor, Girish B. Kambanoor and daughter-in-law Anjali Girish Kambanoor, were murdered at the behest of Vijay Halli and Shankar Allolli, even though the three murder-accused cases were not arrested by the police.
Mrs. Saroja Bai, sister-in-law of former Labor Minister C. Gurunath, who addressed presspersons here on Thursday, recalled the root cause of the dispute and said trouble started when her son Girish objected to illegal sand-laden cars passing through his farmland, leading to a long-running dispute with the accused.
According to her, Satish was murdered in 2020, followed by the killing of Girish in July 2022 near Shahabad railway station. The family suffered a third tragedy last week when Girish’s wife Anjali, who worked as a second division assistant in the social welfare department in Yadgir, was brutally attacked by a group of people on November 12.
She died of her injuries on November 15. Ms. Saroja Bai said that all the three murders were carried out on the instructions of Vijay Halli and Shankar Allolli.
Fighting back tears, Saroja Bai said the family has been living in constant fear ever since the long-running dispute began.
BJP leader Manikanth Rathod, who accompanied the grieving family, said both the accused were close associates of minister Priyank Kharge. He said that political influence is shielding the accused. He demanded that the investigation be handed over to either the Special Investigation Team or the Central Bureau of Investigation for impartial handling.
