27 -year -old man died allegedly during the police interrogation in Thirupuvanam in the Sivagang district on Saturday 28 June 2025).
The deceased man, B. Ajith Kumar, was a temporary security staff in the Batharakaliamman temple in Madapuram near Thirupuvanam.
On Friday they visited Sivagami (75) and her daughter Nikhita of Tirangalam in the Temple. Since Sivagami cannot walk due to age -related diseases, Nikhita helped her mother to walk inside the temple. Meanwhile, they handed over the car key to Ajith Kumar to park the vehicle. When they returned after the prayer, they reportedly found that the bags in the car opened and were missing about 10 sovereign gold ornaments in the bag.
After their complaints, the Police Thirupuvanam reportedly took Ajith Kumara to the police station for questioning and was sent home later in the evening, the sources said.
On Saturday he was taken again by another police wing to ask. During the interrogation, when he allegedly fell unconscious, he was taken to the hospital in Madurai, where doctors declared him dead.
Later, Ajith Kumar family members gathered at the Thirupuvanam police station and blamed death in custody. Sivaganga Superintendent of Police Ashish Rawat is investigating this matter.
