
The head of the Ashoka University political science department, Ali Khan Mahmudabad, was arrested on Sunday after being filed against his positions in the social media for Sindoor operation, his lawyer and police said.
Khan was arrested on the basis of strict accusations, including threats to sovereignty and integrity based on FIRS filed at the Rai police station in Sonipat, Haryana.
“Ali Khan Mahmudabad was arrested in Delhi,” Ayteet Singh quoted the assistant of the police commissioner Rai.

Who is Professor Ashoka University Ali Khan Mahmudabad?
Ali Khan Mahmudabad is not just a faculty of Ashoka University in Sonipat, he is a historian, a poet, a politol scientist and a writer. Ali Khan was born in Lucknow on December 2, 1982 and is the son of Mohammad Amira Mohammad Khan, known as Raja Saheb Mahmudabad.
After a short period of school attendance at La Martiniere School in Lucknow, Khan went to England and studied at King’s College School until 1996. He graduated from MPHIL and PhD at the University of Cambridge in historical studies.

Why are the accused against Ali Khan Mahmudabad?
The police official said that Professor Ashoka University had two fir firing at the Sonipat police station – one on the basis of a complaint by Haryan State Commission for Women, Renu Bhatia and the other for a complaint in the village of Sarpanch.
‘The complaint of the chairman of the Commission was filed against Prof. Ali of Ashok University under BNS Section 152 (acts threatening sovereignty or unity and integrity of India), 353 (statement for public misfortune), 79 (deliberate actions focused on the woman) and 196 (1) on the basis of religion ”that claims to be given on the basis of religion.
What led to the arrest of the professor?
Ali Khan Mahmudabad was arrested days after the female commission in Haryana convened him for alleged comments on Facebook. The Commission accused that the professor “disregarded female officers in the Indian armed forces and promoted the municipal disharmony”, and after the post of Sindoor surgery, he married Suo Motu.
On one of the contributions on May 8, Khan pointed to the “irony” commentators of the “right -wing” praise of Colonel Sofiy Qureshi, who represented the Indian army during media briefings on Indian attack on terrorist clothing in Pakistan 7 May.
In Khan’s post, “the blind blood bleed” and raised concerns about the human costs of the armed conflict and stressed that “the optics of two female soldiers who present their findings” after the Indian military action was important, but “optics must translate into reality on Earth, otherwise it is just a mortgage.”

Statement on the publication of the Association of the Faculty of Ashoka University
The Association of the Faculty of Ashoka University issued a statement on Khan’s arrests on Sunday, condemned this step and caused the accusation of “unreasonably”.
“The Association of the Faculty of Ashoka University strongly condemns the arrest of Professor Ali Khan Mahmudabad, Associate Professor and Head of Political Science, 18 May 2025, on unfounded and unsustainable accusations. We condemn the calculated harassment that Professor Mahmudabad was exhibited,” he said.

The Association said it stood in the “full support” of her colleague and claimed that during his transfer from New Delhi to Sonipat, the necessary medicines were not allowed.
“We require immediate and unconditional release of Professor Mahmudabad and a decline in all charges against him,” the Association said.
