The work in the Gujarate part of the shooting corridor between Vapi and Sabarmati is planned to be completed until December 2027 and the whole project from Maharaštra to the Sabarmati section will end by December 2029, Lok Sabha was informed on Wednesday (July 23, 2025).
Providing the most ambitious project of the country after some members asked questions about its design, the Minister of Railway Ashwini Vaishnaw said that the high-speed rail project in Mumbai-Ahmedabad (508 km) is in technical and financial assistance from Japan.

“The Gujarat part of the corridor between Vapi and Sabarmati is planned to be completed by December 2027. The whole project (Maharashtra to the Sabarmati section) is expected to be completed by December 2029,” Vaishnaw said in a written answer.
He argued that because it is a very complex and technologically demanding project, its precise competitive timelines can be determined adequately after all related work of civil structures, monitoring, electrical, signaling and telecommunications and delivery of train sets.
The Minister said that the total estimated project costs are approximately 1,08,000 GBP, of which the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funds 81%IE 88,000 crore and 19%of the balance. 20,000 GBP Crore (25%) and the Government Maharashtra (25%) (25%).
“The cumulative financial expenses of 78,839 GBP Crore took place until June 30,” he said.
“The delay in obtaining land in Maharashtra has influenced the project by 2021. However, the whole land (1389.5 ha.) For the Mahsr project,” he added.
The Minister said the final survey of the location and geotechnical investigation was completed and the reconciliation, together with all legal permits concerning wildlife, coastal regulatory zones (CRZ) and forest work, completed.
The update on the ongoing construction work said all the civil contracts of the project were assigned.
“Of the total number of 28 bid packs, 24 bid packs have been granted. So far, 392 km of the mola has been completed, also 329 km of casting and said Mr. Vaishnaw.
“In order to expand the HSR network in India outside the Mahsr corridor and the satisfaction of the growing demand of passengers between the capital cities of commercial/economic and tourist significance, the detailed report of the project is preparing the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL),” he added.
According to the Minister of Railway, HSR projects are highly demanding on capital and any decision to accept a new project is based on many factors such as technical feasibility, financial and economic viability, demand for transport and availability of funding and financing, etc.
“The commercial operation of the MAHSR project includes an affordable fare structure for services, taking into account the socio -economic conditions of the clientele for optimal HSR industry,” Vaishnaw said.
