Nilgiris District Collector, Lakshmi Bhavya Tanneeru, on Friday announced the launch of the ‘Empower Nilgiris’ portal, which is described as a “dedicated portal that connects individuals, institutions and CSR contributors who want to support meaningful causes and projects in the Nilgiris”.

Ms tanneu made the announcement at the launch of the third annual Nilgiris Economic Dialogue, which is being held at Bananadam till Sunday.

“Very often, well-intentioned donors want to contribute but are not sure where to start, who to contact or how to ensure transparency and measurable impact,” said Ms. Tanneeru, who said the “Empower Nilgiris” portal was launched to bridge these gaps by curating “proven, need-based projects across sectors.”

The portal allows donors two clear ways to contribute. “Firstly, the donors can take over and implement the project as a whole in coordination with the district office and the concerned department, or secondly, they can contribute funds by the concerned ministry, which will then implement the project as per the norms,” said the collector.

“In both cases, the emphasis is on transparency, accountability and results. The portal provides mechanisms to track progress, monitor implementation and ensure that contributions translate into real impact on the ground,” she added. Donors can get more information through the website www.empowernilgiris.org.

Ms. Tanneeru said the portal makes contributions easier, transparent and efficient without donors having to go through multiple bureaus and informal channels. “The Nilgiris have always attracted people who care about nature, communities and the future. ‘Empower Nilgiris’ is an attempt to channelize this goodwill into a structured, credible and results-oriented framework,” said the Collector, who added that development in places like the Nilgiris cannot be measured by economic indicators but by how ecosystems are protected and how they live fairly.

Present at the inauguration were Unnikrishnan AR, President, Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Tamil Nadu; P. Ravichandran, Vice-Chairman, CII Southern Region; Thomas John Muthoot, Chairman, CII Southern Region; Shankar Vanavarayar, Convenor of the Nilgiris Economic Dialogue, and C. Devarajan, Vice-Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu State Council.
