A dead eight -year -old tiger was found on Friday.
Post mortem on the remnants of the animal was carried out by the forest department in the presence of a representative of the NGO and the carcasses were destroyed. Officials stated that samples from the visceral organs of the animal were sent for forensic analysis to detect the cause of death.
The divisional forest officer (Nilgiris), S. Gowtham, said the forest department saw the animal just before death on Thursday evening. As he seemed to be in need, the veterinarian was called to treat him. However, the animal died before any veterinary intervention could be carried out, he said, adding that there were no external injuries or circumstances that would have a contested game.
