The Central University of Kerala (CUK) has launched an ‘Earn While You Learn’ scheme, which offers students an opportunity to take up part-time work on campus without disrupting their studies. Vice-Chancellor Siddu P. Algur launched the initiative aimed primarily at supporting economically disadvantaged students.
Speaking on the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor said that the program will not only provide financial support to the students but also help them develop a sense of solidarity, responsibility and leadership. He noted that the involvement of students in administrative activities is in line with the idea of a developed and self-sufficient India.
The scheme would act as a platform to harness and nurture diverse student talent, university officials said. Dean of Student Welfare Rajendra Pilankatta and Library Committee Chairman Dennis Thomas spoke.
40 students were initially selected. Assignments will be scheduled so that academic activities remain intact. Students will be assigned jobs based on their skills and interests, giving them exposure and hands-on experience.
The university plans to expand the program to other departments in the coming days with the aim of including the maximum number of students.
