Many parts of the Malnad region have received torrential rains over the last two days and affected normal life. The tide into the tanks was on the rise and forces the authorities to open the gates of the ridge.
The authorickshaw driver died in an incident on a tree. The deceased, identified as Rathhnakar, 45, returned to Gadical after throwing a passenger in Kogre when he fell on his vehicle and killed him on the spot. The incident occurred on Sunday near the village of Byredar in Koppa Taluk.
Strong rains affected the movement of the vehicle on highways and low -lying areas in many places were flooded.
At least three incidents of vehicles fallen into watercourses were reported in Chikkamagalur. All three incidents were reported between Banakal and Kottighar in Mudigere Taluk. Drivers tried to negotiate deep curves. However, the alerts were saved by passengers.

In the Hassan district, travelers on the National Highway 75, connecting Bengalur and Mangaluru, were stuck due to the incidents of landslides. Officers responsible for the Tung reservoir in Gajanur opened the gates of the ridge because the water reached the maximum level due to heavy rains in the basin. The tank has the ability to hold 3.24 TMC water. The water level reached a maximum level of 588.24 meters on Sunday, forcing officers to open the gates. According to officers, the influx of the day was around 11,500 CUSECS.
Similarly, the Yagachi project officers in Beluur warned people downstream from the Yagachi tank to move to safer places. On Sunday morning, the water level in the tank was 964.23 meters, against the full level of the tank 946.60 meters. The ridge gates could be open at any time to release excess water, said Punith C., a powerful Yagachi project.
