On Monday, June 16, the Ministry of the Interior issued a notice of the Police Census in 2027. The Government said the census would take place in two phases. She also shared a reference date for the census – 2027 in her notice.
The government reported that March 1, 2027 is a reference date for all countries and trade unions (except Ladakh and Snow areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand). 1 October 2026 is a reference date for the remaining states and UT.
The Ministry of the Ministry is: “The reference date for the above census will be 00.00 (12:00) 1 March 2027, with the exception of the Ladakh Union and the non -synchronous area of Jammu and Kashmir and the states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.”
He added: “As far as the territory of the Union of Ladakhu and the non -synchronous areas of the Union of Jammu and Kashmir and the States of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhanda, the reference date will be 00:00 hours 1 October 2026.”
The census in India is carried out in accordance with the provisions of the 1948 Census Act and the Census Rules of 1990.

When was the last census?
The last census in India was carried out in 2011 in two phases, namely i) Phase I – Home Extract (HLO) (1 April to 30 September 2010) and II) Phase II – List (PE) (9 February to 28 February 2011).
The government said in a press release that the census of the 2021 people was also designed in two phases in a similar way with a phase even during April-September 2020 and the second phase in February 2021.
