After almost two years of suspension, the separation of food and civilian supplies is set to continue the petroleum distribution through rationing shops after a new allocation of 5,676 killoliths in the center.
The aim of the state is to start distribution before 15 May, but logistic and surgical problems are obstacles to introduction.
The renewed allocation is governed by the persistent appeals of the Minister of Food and the Civic Suppllations of the GR Anil to the Ministry for Consumers, Food and Public Distribution. In particular, the allocation comes at a time when the center gradually eliminated kerosene to support the alternatives of pure energy. Currently, 14 countries and six territories of the Union have terminated the offer of petroleums through a fair price.
Drastic reduction
Kerala’s ALOCATION ALOCATION has seen a drastic reduction over the years, from 55,632 kilololiters in 2018-19 to 15,552 kilololiters in 2022-23. The whole allocation of the state fell into the last financial year after wholesale dealers were unable to lift the assigned quota due to expired license and limited operating capacity.
Currently, there is a lack of licensed wholesale retailers of kerosene. While there were once two to three Taluk retailers, most districts now have only one licensed seller, causing narrow places in distribution. With a shortage in wholesale retailers, retailers with retail rations were reluctant to procure the assigned petroleum, quote high transport costs and insufficient margins of the Commission.
Increasing commissions
Under these circumstances, the government has begun consultations with stakeholders to resolve these questions. According to sources, however, it is likely that any increase in commissions is likely to be transferred to consumers, which will potentially increase the price of kerosene from 63 to 67 to 67 per liter.
Card Holders Antyodaya Anna Yojana (Aay) will be entitled to one liter of kerosene, while priority households (PHH) and other card holders receive half a liter.
The distribution of the failed kerosene PDS designed for fishing and allied sectors will only be completed after the public distribution is completed through rationing shops.
