Several families displaced by ethnic violence are preparing to return to their homes on the outskirts of Manipur’s Imphal Valley under the safety cover.
Imphal West District officials said several people began to cleanse houses that left after the conflict between Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities, on May 3, 2023, more than 250 dead broke out in two years.
In some cases, people began to repair their houses damaged or destroyed at the top of the conflict. They are expected to move their families after the houses are the remaining.
District authorities and security forces allowed displaced people from the village of 21 households in New Keithelmanbi to clean and repair their houses. The village is on the border with the Kangpokpi district, dominating the Kuki-Zo community.
Rations will continue
“The displacement of people are relocated in their original homes in coordination with representatives of the commissioners of neighboring districts. After returning home, they will continue to receive rations and benefits within the state mission for livelihood,” said Deputy Commissioner Imphal West on Tuesday. “Security will be provided to people wherever there is the possibility of their return home,” he said.
July 4, former main secretary of the state, Prashant Kumar Singh, said the first of the three -phase plan for internally displaced people, chalk in conjunction with the center, took place. He claimed that about 5,000 out of approximately 62,000 people returned to their villages in violence.
He also said that the government was planning to rehabilitate most of the displaced people by December and then close the auxiliary camps, many in educational institutions.
The government of manipur is expected to provide financial assistance of 3.03 ₹ Lakh to 7,000-8,000 families whose houses were destroyed during violence to rebuild them anywhere.
However, the government is aware that about 10,000 Meitei people could not return to their homes in Kuki-Majority MOREH (Tengnapal districts), Kangpokpi and Chuchandpur. They will be given the opportunity to stay in about 1,000 prefabricated houses that build Police Housing Corporation Limited.
A similar arrangement will be made for Kuki-Zo people who will not be able to return to the Imphal valley.
