Sonali Ghosh, director of the Kaziranga and Tiger Reserve National Park, became the first Indian to win the Innovation Innovation Award and the Sustainability of the Protected Area.
Awarded the Kenton R. Miller award, established by the World Center for Protected Area (WCPA), along with the Ecuadorian Roque Simón Sevilla Larrea in the office of Abu Dhabi on October 10.
WCPA is one of the six technical committees of the International Union for Nature Conservation (IUCN), a global network introduced from 1948 devoted to maintaining nature and sustainable use of natural resources.
The WCPA specializes in the management, management and policy of protected areas, in support of the creation and effective management of protected areas around the world, including national parks, reserves and sea protected areas.
Kenton R. Miller Award for innovations in national parks and sustainability of a protected area founded in 2006 founded for innovation in national parks and protected areas of IUCN-WCPA. The price, which was named after the former IUCN CEO, recognizes individuals or teams whose innovation in planning, administration, finance, management, monitoring, capacities and communication building has a significant impact and mutual recognition without previous international prizes.
The challenges that record include poaching pressures, climate change, invasive species and limited finances.
The IUCN statement stated that Dr. Ghosh was recognized that he promoted “a model of protection rooted in community involvement, building awareness and trouble -free integration of traditional ecological knowledge with modern scientific knowledge”. This model was particularly influenced in the highly biological landscape of Manas and Kaziranga in Assam.
Mr. Larrea, an economist, entrepreneur, environmentalist and politician, was awarded for bringing “sustainability through various companies, including tourism, insurance and the environment”. He is also the founder and President of Grupo Futuro, a holding company with 19 companies across insurance companies, medical services, tourism, agriculture and clean energy.
The previous recipients of the Kenton R. Miller are Burung Indonesia for community protection of birds integrating local knowledge and scientific research, Nizar Youssef Hani from the Lebanese Biospheric Reserve for the support of the Marinium government for cooperation and scientific monitors and scientific monitors.
