The state government has decided to construct a new bar building at the Dharwad Bench of the Karnataka High Court on the lines of the Delhi High Court Bar Building, Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi said.
According to a press release, Mr. Jarkiholi led a delegation of senior advocates and MLAs from North Karnataka to visit the Supreme Court Bar Association and Delhi High Court buildings in New Delhi on February 20 to inspect the facilities there.
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the government is committed to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure including auditorium, library, conference hall, mediation centers and digital facilities for advocates, litigants and public at the Dharwad High Court Bar Association building.
Senior Advocate Mohan Kataraki also interacted with the delegation during the visit. Referring to the Kalasa-Banduri projects, he said the Mahadayi Tribunal has already given its decision and the Union Government has issued a notification and approved a detailed project report. He recommended that the state government secure the necessary clearances, including those from the National Wildlife Board and the Union Environment Ministry, and start the work.
He said once the work starts, the state can legally stake its claim in the Supreme Court to secure another 7 tmcft of water.
He said better utilization of excess flood water from Almatti during monsoon could help solve the shortage in Ghataprabha and Malaprabha reservoirs and benefit areas facing irrigation and drinking water shortages.
Senior Supreme Court advocates, Dharward High Court activists, NH Konaraddi, Navalgund MLA and other dignitaries were present.
