Following a spate of snakebite incidents in Kerala, including two deaths where victims were bitten by snakes in their own homes, the health department has issued a public advisory to snake-proof homes.
Experts point out that the intense summer heat being experienced across the state now has a clear role in increasing the incidence of snake sightings in households. As temperatures rise, reptiles tend to seek out cooler areas, so care must be taken not to create opportunities for snakes to enter homes.
