District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani on Friday (November 7, 2025) briefed Fisheries Department Joint Secretary Neetu Kumari Prasad on detailed project reports related to infrastructure facilities and emphasized the need to promote shrimp processing plants in West Godavari district.
Recently, the Union Ministry of Fisheries declared the West Godavari region as a brackishwater aquaculture cluster with a promise to extend support to promote sustainable practices and shrimp exports in the West Godavari region. Brackishwater aquaculture is spread over 53,000 acres, mostly in Narsapuram and Bhimavaram section, in West Godavari district.
Chadalavada Nagarani told The Hindu on Friday, “We are preparing detailed project reports and looking for necessary assistant from National Fisheries Development Board, NABARD and Indian Council of Agricultural Research to promote aquaculture and brackishwater export.
In Andhra Pradesh, brackish aquaculture thrives in the stretch between the Krishna and Godavari rivers, producing mainly shrimp. West Godavari District Fisheries Department Deputy Director LLN Raju and other officials were present on Friday at an online conference presided over by Ms. Neetu Kumari Prasad.
