The delay in submitting the Ayush department seat matrix is causing nervousness among the aspirants

As the Department of Ayush has not yet submitted the seat matrix of AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) courses to the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA), the counseling of these courses will be further delayed. This raised concerns among students and parents.
The process of allotment of CET seats for admission to other professional courses including engineering has already reached the final stage and it is learned that KEA has sent several reminders to the Ayush Ministry to submit the seat matrix but no suitable response has been received so far.
“Many students and parents visit and call KEA to inquire about counseling for these courses,” said Prasanna, Executive Director, KEA.
In 2025-26, there were 121 AYUSH colleges across the state with a total of 8,945 seats available. Of this, 7,950 posts were filled through KEA, leaving 995 posts vacant.
Third round completed
The allotment of seats for the 3rd round of CET for the year 2026-27 is already completed and the admission process for other professional fields including engineering is going on. Moreover, the NEET 2nd round seat allotment process has started from 7th September and the admission process will be completed by 14th September.
Meanwhile, as per the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) order, September 14 is the last date for admission to engineering courses and the official commencement of classes.
Many students enrolled in other professional courses including engineering, dentistry are also aspirants for AYUSH courses. They have provisionally selected these seats during CET counseling and are waiting for counseling in AYUSH course.
KEA has enabled candidates to accept seat allotted in various rounds of CET counseling and participate in further seat allotment process for better seat or course. If candidates get a better seat in a good college, they can get admission without any additional fee.
Course change
However, once admissions for other courses including engineering are completed and colleges are started, colleges will not allow students to change their courses. Colleges do not refund fees if students cancel admission. Instead, they will have to pay the entire course fee as a penalty.
Hence, aspirants who have already enrolled in other courses and are expecting AYUSH seats are worried.
“I have decided to take homeopathy course. Due to delay in counseling process for AYUSH course, I have temporarily enrolled in civil engineering. But when I inquired at KEA, they said counseling will be delayed as AYUSH seat matrix has not been delivered yet. College will start from 14th September and cancellation of admission will have to be fined.”
“Counseling for AYUSH courses is delayed every year causing problems to students and parents. My daughter has decided to join Ayurvedic and we have been waiting for counseling for many months. But it has not started yet. Due to this, classes, academic year and exams will also be delayed. Reason for delay
Ayush department sources said that the submission of seat matrix is delayed as the union ministry of AYUSH has not yet cleared the seat matrix, seat enhancement and other matters for AYUSH courses.
