The death of a worker at a Google data center site has sparked controversy

The Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Sunday demanded ₹50 crore as compensation to the family of Majji Appal Raju (48), who was working on the construction of the upcoming Google data center project at Tarluvada village in Anandapuram mandal.

The party claimed that Appala Raju collapsed while working and later died. They also alleged that the police prevented CPI(M) and CITU leaders from meeting the affected families.

CPI(M) central committee member K. Lokanadham and district secretary M. Jaggu Naidu said at a press conference here that the police detained the party leaders and imposed restrictions on their visit to Tarluvada following the death of Appal Raju. They urged the state government to compensate the bereaved family, provide educational support to the deceased worker’s children and withdraw what they described as a police crackdown on those supporting the affected families.

The CPI(M) has also sought free educational support for its children and rehabilitation, warning of intensified protests if these remain unresolved.
