The death of a 29-year-old pregnant woman and her newborn at the Government Taluk Hospital in Pattambi has sparked a controversy with her family alleging medical negligence and demanding action against the doctors who treated her.
Noushija, wife of Nasar Basha of Thrithala, was admitted to the hospital on February 16 for delivery. On February 19, she reportedly developed heavy bleeding and breathing problems after which doctors referred her to Government Medical College Hospital, Thrissur.
However, her relatives took her to a private hospital in Vaniyamkulam. She reportedly died before arriving at the hospital. The family claimed that she had already died on Friday while she was still in the Taluk Hospital.
They further claimed that the treatment was delayed for three days due to the absence of an anesthetist and that during this time she endured severe pain. The family also accused the hospital authorities of refusing to release her medical records.
