The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) will observe a “black day” on Tuesday (February 3) to protest the “gross neglect” shown by Kerala in the Union Budget. Black flags will be hoisted at the center of the stalls in all districts.
The CPI(M) state secretariat said in a statement on Monday that the state raised 29 demands in discussions with the Union finance minister ahead of the budget, but none was considered.
“The budget was presented in such a way that Kerala does not exist on the map of India. Kerala did not get any project, including the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), high-speed rail or the Vizhinjam port development package, which the state had been demanding for a long time. The Union government did not take steps to protect the traditional industries of the state. The budget completely ignored the common interests of the people and completely ignored the interests of the ASHA employees of the corporation,” the statement said.
The CPI(M) said the drastic cut in the employment guarantee scheme will also disrupt the scheme that is being effectively implemented in Kerala.
