The CPI(M) is protesting against the launch of a rafting drive in the midst of a search for a missing person
The CPI(M) on Sunday (June 28, 2026) staged a protest against the launch of a rafting event, organized as part of a kayaking competition, near where search operations were underway for a person who went missing after being swept away in the swollen Pathankayam river near Kodenchera in Kozhikode.
Earlier, two persons were rescued while another went missing after an unexpected surge in the river on Saturday (June 27, 2026). Kozhikode district panchayat president Mili Mohan launched the raft drive. CPI(M) workers staged a protest march in Kodenchery town.
The party claimed that the rafting ceremony, while an intensive search for a missing person was going on nearby, was inhumane and shocking. The CPI(M) said such an approach was inappropriate for persons holding positions of responsibility.
The party has decided to organize a mass protest march to the Kodenchery grama panchayat office on Monday (June 29, 2026) at 10 am to protest the incident.
